Textile Trade Fuels Seamless India–Bangladesh Integration By Business Desk | BanglaConnection Dateline: Kolkata/Dhaka, Sept 7, 2025

Cross-border textile trade between India and Bangladesh is witnessing a sharp upswing, driven by infrastructure upgrades and digital customs reforms. Exporters in Dhaka report a 20% increase in orders from Indian buyers this quarter, signaling renewed momentum in bilateral commerce.

At the Petrapole–Benapole corridor, hundreds of trucks now move daily, transporting yarn, garments, and raw materials. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) on both sides describe the supply chain as “increasingly seamless,” thanks to reduced paperwork and faster clearance times.

“India provides raw cotton, Bangladesh adds value through garments, and both economies win,” said Shafiq Ahmed, a Dhaka-based textile trader.

Industry analysts predict that textile and apparel could evolve into a $20 billion bilateral sector within five years, provided infrastructure and policy coordination continue to improve.

The textile boom is also fostering deeper cultural and business ties, with joint ventures and design collaborations emerging across Kolkata and Dhaka.
